This week we are excited to have both Danielle Coenen & Robert Hagan on SEEN HAUS!

Danielle Coene

Danielle Coenen is a Boston-based painter who creates portraits characterized by saturated palettes and merging of realism with expressive abstraction. She received a BFA from The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University in 2011, trained in both painting and sculpture. Her deep interest in psychology drives her love for portraiture, with her style evolving from a long accumulation of influences including graffiti, surrealism, and abstract expressionism. Danielle has had solo exhibitions in Boston and New York City as well as participated in numerous group exhibitions across New England.

Her work is exhibited in galleries across the U.S. and is held in private collections internationally. The most notable feature of her work was in Dr. Robert Mendoza’s Harvard College Ted Talk “What If I’m Wrong,” connecting her process to forensic neuropsychology. Danielle also teaches art privately and is a nationally recognized art educator with awards from The Scholastic Foundation and The National YoungArts Foundation.

Robert Hagan

Robert Hagan born in May 1947 in South Wales, Australia. He has 2 boys and travelled the world painting from America, England and Asia. He was drawn to painting as a hobby and form of relaxation for over 30 years and it has now turned into something more. He graduated from Newcastle University in 1969 with a degree in History and Economics.

Robert was the originator and Executive Producer of ‘Splash of Color’. It was a travel /painting series on Discovery HD in 2010. Different episodes that featured cities like America, Philippines and Thailand. The series was aired in Australia, Singapore and the rest of South-East Asia.

He had published several books from Paintings of Australia to Painting Cowboys and the Old West. His knowledge in art is vast for being a self-taught artist. Robert’s impressionist flair uses a limited palette of oil and uses light and reflection to highlight what the naked eye naturally gravitates to in his paintings. He is known for the quote “Hit’em with drama.”

The usage of composition of colors is most used for his western romantic paintings. Bringing blissful nostalgia through his work as most often his subjects are animals, children, cowboys on horseback rounding up cattle or hunched over a campfire. His paintings have an endearing sentimental feel to it, taking us back to a more simpler time in life that’s so easy to be forgotten. A yearning for a time where life wasn’t all digital and was simply face to face.

That’s it for this edition of ‘State of SEEN’. You can follow the project on Twitter, Discord, Telegram, and here on Medium.
